Help! What is it?

I'm trying to figure out what this line is on my nail. I didn't want to ask when I first saw it, but I think it's time. This grew out from my cuticle.

My mom used to tell me it meant I have a deficiency in something. Well I take a women't multi-vitamin everyday along with Biotin, so I'm not quite sure that's it. One of my friends told me I probably hit it or scratched it, but there is no dent in my nail over the white.

Have you had one of these before? Do you know what it is?

I've seen those on my nails from time to time. I don't know what it is. So, I'm no help. But, mine have always gone away. When I saw them, my nails seemed to be kind of weak. But, I noticed that once they got stronger they went away. Might help to use a nail strengthener or something. :-/

I used to have that white thing on my nails too..
It doesn't hurt so i just ignored it..

You will probably notice that it will 'fall off'..it will go to the end of your nails..then be gone..

I used to get those all the time when I was a kid. It could be a sign of nutritional deficiency or you could have just banged your nail against something. It's technically called leukonychia (I googled it!) :)

Olivia C.- I take Biotin and use Nailtek basecoat and topcoat for weak nails. If that's the case, I'm not too sure what other precautions I would need to take. Thanks for the input though!

~tHiAmErE~- Yes when I used to get these they would 'fall off'. I have ignored them in the past and now I was just curious.

Nina- I was going to google it but I thought I would post it on here and see what you ladies could come up with and maybe get some advice. I did google it after I read your comment and I found out that it 'could' be a zinc deficiency and if I eat more leafy green vegetables, nuts, and whole grain they might not happen anymore.
So my mom was right!
Thanks for the info!

hm, did you happen to hit your nail/finger on something? that happens to me all the time cuz i'm so clumsy :P the shock of hitting something leaves the mark on the nail so it's nothing to worry about. it grows out and you can just file it away :)
